Enterprise Africa Programme

Inspiryse is developing the graduate and MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) landscapes in Africa.  The pilot programme is developing the Management Consultancy capacity, locally, in Tanzania by recruiting and training youth on Management Consultancy techniques and best practices.

Inspiryse, by working closely with our partners and clients, will begin develop new opportunities for internships for a larger number of youth.

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises

Since SMEs tend to be labour-intensive, they create employment at relatively low levels of investment per job created.  At present, unemployment is a significant problem that Tanzania has to deal with.  Estimates show that there are about 700,000 new entrants into the labour force every year.  About 500,000 of these are school leavers with few marketable skills.  The public sector employs only about 40,000 of the new entrants into the labour market, leaving about 660,000 to join the unemployed or the underemployed reserve.  Most of these persons end up in the SME sector, and especially in the informal sector.  Given that situation and the fact that Tanzania is characterised by low rate of capital formation, SMEs are the best option to address this problem.

Business management consultancy is the practice of developing systems and methods that will enhance the functioning of a business or organisation.

Involving analysis of current business models, systems and structures, and assessing areas for improvement. Following initial analysis, development of plans and improvement are the key components of management consultancies. Using ‘best practice’s, management consultancies can provide change management assistance, strategy development, operational improvement services etc.

Inspiryse’s objective is to work with Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMES’s) providing services that will enable their business to flourish and also tackle the issue of youth unemployment.  Over 80% of the work force lives in rural areas and relies on agricultural, livestock and mineral extraction for earning income.

Whilst working with highly qualified, international, volunteer consultants with vast experience across a variety of sectors our, local, junior consultants will be mentored to provide a number of, international standard, services including, but not limited to:

  • Developing organisational systems and structures;
  • Developing business strategy;
  • Creating a sustainable business model for our clients.

Youth Unemployment

The youth employment challenge in Tanzania can be described as that of employability – extent to which the youth can be employed or absorbed (within and outside Tanzania). Youths find it difficult to join both the formal and the informal sectors.

The poverty level remains high with a large disparity between urban and rural settings. While macroeconomic indicators have improved, the challenge is to ensure that future growth is pro-poor.

The youth population in Tanzania is growing and remains high, constituting more than 30 percent of the total population and 68 per cent of the national labour force. Rates of unemployment and under employment are quite high particularly for the youth, who also lack voice in decision-making bodies, making them vulnerable to social exclusion and poverty. According to the labour force survey from 2001, youth unemployment increased by 11 per cent from 1991 to 2001.

Unemployed youth constituted 28 per cent of the urban youth labour force and 31.8 per cent of the rural unemployed population.

Of the 700,000 who annually graduate from secondary and tertiary schools, in mainland Tanzania only 40,000 get absorbed into formal wage employment.
